Bend Area Habitat for Humanity to cease Crook County operations

KTVZ

The Bend Area Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors said Monday it has made the difficult decision to cease operations in Crook County by June 30. As a result, Habitat will close the Crook County ReStore and will no longer offer homeownership opportunities in Prineville.

According to Executive Director Scott Rohrer, the decision was a result of economic realities.

“The decision was extremely difficult for both staff and board,” he said in Monday’s announcement.

“Since we merged with Crook County in 2008, we have worked hard to make a difference in the lives of low-income families,” Rohrer said. “During that time, we have invested $275,000 to help make a difference in the Prineville community by serving five families and completing more than 40 home repairs.”

“But as a volunteer-based organization dealing with the rising costs of land and construction, we‘ve had to consolidate our organization,” he said.

“We are honored to have partnered with many Prineville families through homeownership, ReStore customers and donors, and the committed volunteers who have generously given of their time in support of affordable housing.”

Plans to distribute remaining assets are currently being finalized. The Crook County ReStore will continue to accept donations and sell materials at 1427 NW Murphy Court through June 4.
