Two campers were injured when they fell 15 to 20 feet at a Smith Rock State Park camping area late Friday night, fire officials said. One was flown to an area hospital and the other taken by ambulance.

Redmond Fire and Rescue responded just after 11 p.m. to the report that a camper had fallen in the area of the Bivouac camping area, said Battalion Chief Jon Wood.

They arrived at the scene and learned that two campers had fallen, he said.

Deschutes County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue also was called in to help extricate the two victims, Wood said. The rescue operations took until about 1:15 a.m. to conclude.

One person was taken to the hospital by Life Flight helicopter and the other by Redmond Fire ambulance, he said.

Oregon State Police also assisted in the operation, Wood said, while Crooked River Ranch Fire and Rescue helped Redmond with other alarm calls during the rescue effort.

Further details were not available Saturday.
