Orphaned week-old Warm Springs foal rescued, recovering
A horse rescue organization reached out to the public for help Saturday as several groups, veterinarians and others came together to care for an orphaned week-old foal rescued from the Warm Springs Indian Reservation.

It has been said it takes a village to raise children; well in this case it took a village to save an orphaned foal.
We are calling her Promise, the name chosen by a cancer survivor on the scene of her rescue.
Promise was found wandering on the range alone by Tribal members, who contacted the Warm Springs Range Management who in turn contacted Warm Springs Horse Network, quickly connecting with 3 Sisters Equine Refuge, who in turn contacted the Wags and Menace Make a Difference Foundation to seek assistance with the emergency medical care this young and in trouble foal would need to survive.
Promise was rushed to Bend Equine Medical Center late in the evening one day last week. Medical attention began immediately; her survival was at a critical and desperate stage.
Promise is currently in the care of 3 Sisters Equine Refuge under the careful watch of Bend Equine Medical Center and are doing everything they can for this tiny little one-week-old orphaned filly.
“Little Promise came to Bend Equine in really rough shape,” said Dr. Shannon Findley, a veterinarian with Bend Equine Medical Center.
“She was so thin and weak, had numerous wounds as well as pneumonia. It became immediately apparent that she had a fighting spirit and the tiny little foal stole the hearts of all the hospital staff with her bigger than life personality and try.
“She had a setback during her hospitalization that required intensive care. Her prognosis is good so long as she continues to get the supportive care she needs.
“The Three Sisters Equine Refuge and the Wags and Menace Make a Difference Foundation have done a tremendous thing by taking on this special little girl and giving her a chance,” Findley added.
“The Wags and Menace Make a Difference Foundation is proud to provide funding for the life saving major emergency medical care to help save Promise and many wild babies over the past two years. We value our partnership with 3 Sisters Equine Rescue and Refuge and look forward to saving many more wild horses together” said Cindy Lee, President, Wags and menace Make a Difference Foudation
She requires 24 hour monitoring, care, feeding, medications and supplements every four hours. This is where the community can step in to help; her medical bill is currently at $5,000.00, which has been covered by the Wags and Menace Make a Difference Foundation, but she needs extended care, Milk that costs $82 a bucket, supplements at $25 a day and vet re-checks at about another $1,000.
We currently are caring for two other babies and three more recent rescues and our medical funds are depleted.
“This tiny baby is a fighter, and we are doing everything we can to ensure her survival! She has quite a village of rescuers pulling for her, now we are asking for the communities support to assist us with her continuing and long tern care” said Cyndi Davis, Board of Director with 3 Sisters Equine Refuge and manager of the Rescue and Rehabilitation campus
