Man shot at SE Bend motel; investigation ongoing
A southeast Bend motel guest was shot in the leg during a dispute with two visitors Tuesday night and taken to the hospital for treatment, police said Wednesday.
Lt. Clint Burleigh said two motel visitors were detained at the scene, but no charges have been filed as police continue to investigate what took place.
Officers were notified around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday that a man had been shot and wounded at the Rodeway Inn and Suites at 904 Southeast Third Street, Burleigh said.
Officers responded and found a man in Room 147 with a single gunshot wound to the leg. Bend Fire medics treated the man for non-life-threatening injuries and took him to St. Charles Bend for treatment, Burleigh said.
An initial investigation found that two people went to the motel room to confront two guests. Burleigh described all four men as Bend transients.
An altercation ensued, during which one of the visitors fired at least one round from a handgun but no one was injured the lieutenant said.
The two visitors left the room and the two guests followed them outside, at which point the altercation resumed and another round was fired from the same handgun, striking the motel guest in the leg.
The two visitors fled in a dark blue 2016 Toyota Yaris, which Burleigh said has been located.
Bend police detectives are continuing the process the crime scene, collect evidence and conduct interviews, Burleigh said. He said more information will be released when available, but added, “We do not have information of any outstanding community threats at this time.”
Police following up on the shooting also worked Wednesday morning in the area of NE Purcell Boulevard and Neff Road, but Burleigh said they were not yet ready to disclose any connection to the motel shooting.
