Bend Parks seeks teen volunteers for summer youth programs

KTVZ

Bend Park & Recreation District has many opportunities still available for teenage volunteers to help with youth recreation, fitness and swimming programs this summer.

Volunteers help from mid-June through the end of August with opportunities such as the Junior Lifeguard and Swim Instructor Aide programs at Juniper Swim & Fitness Center, plus day camps, science, art, theater, cooking, fitness, nature and adventure activities for children. Programs are located at various facilities and parks around Bend.

Volunteers assist staff with program activities and interact with participants, while learning job related skills and gaining experience working with younger children.

Teen volunteers must enjoy working with youth, be willing to get involved and take initiative, make a commitment and be able to create a positive, encouraging environment for all participants. Age requirement, necessary training, time commitment and schedule varies by program. Minimum age for teen volunteers is 12 years old.

Information about volunteering, the list of current opportunities and volunteer application form are available through the Bend Park & Recreation District website at www.bendparksandrec.org, click on the “volunteer” tab. A criminal history background check is processed for volunteers age 18 and over.
