Lawmakers reimburse DCSO for refuge patrol costs
The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, along with public safety partners around the state, will receive state funds to partially reimburse their expenses for their response to the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge takeover in Harney County.
On May, 25, the Oregon Legislature’s Joint Ways And Means Committee approved the request during an emergency board session at the state Capitol, Deschutes County Sheriff Shane Nelson said.
The sheriff’s office had requested a state reimbursement of $116,381.77 on April 18.
“I am very pleased to be receiving the reimbursement from the state of Oregon,” Nelson said. “I will continue to pursue the federal government for the remainder out-of-pocket costs of $53,123.29.”
