Credit union awards $30,000 in scholarships to Oregon seniors

KTVZ

SELCO Community Credit Union has awarded $30,000 in college scholarships to 20 graduating high school seniors throughout Oregon, providing financial assistance to recipients and further supporting the company’s “People Helping People” philosophy.

Scholarship recipients were chosen from hundreds of applicants based on academic performance and community involvement, with each recipient earning a $1,500 scholarship to be used toward tuition and related expenses.

“As an 80-year-old credit union that was founded by teachers and school employees, education is a big part of SELCO’s DNA,” said Laura Illig, Vice President of Marketing for SELCO Community Credit Union. “We are proud to once again be able to help our members achieve their goals of going to college, pursuing their dreams, and achieving their full potential.”

To qualify, recipients were required to be graduating from a four-year accredited high school with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5, planning to attend a two- or four-year college or university, and a SELCO member or immediate family member of a SELCO member. Recipients were chosen based on their application, letters of recommendation, and a personal essay describing their goals for continuing their education.
