COCC stabbing suspect Norgaard trial begins

KTVZ

A trial gets underway Tuesday for former Central Oregon Community College student Eric Norgaard, accused of stabbing his roommate, James Briles, about a dozen times in October of 2014.

Norgaard faces several charges, including attempted murder, first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon. The trial before Deschutes County Circuit Judge Michael Adler is scheduled to last about four days, according to online court records.

In May, an undisclosed settlement was reached in a $3 million civil lawsuit filed against COCC by Briles.

Briles claimed the college failed to provide a new roommate when Norgaard began showing bizarre behavior.

We will be updating this story throughout his trial.
