Prineville man killed in Crook County pickup crash

A 35-year-old Prineville man was killed late Thursday night when his pickup truck left Southeast Davis Loop near Prineville and overturned, Crook County sheriff’s deputies said. The deputies said he and a passenger were both thrown from the truck in the crash, and that alcohol is believed to be a factor.

Sheriff’s deputies, Prineville police and Crook County Fire and Rescue were dispatched around 10:45 p.m. to the reported crash on Davis Loop at milepost 9, said sheriff’s Sgt. Ryan Seaney.

Units arrived to find a white Ford F-350 on its side off the north side of the road, he said. The male driver, identified Friday afternoon as William McCormick Jr., was pinned beneath the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene. Seaney said a passenger, Jamie Rosas, 32, also of Prineville declined medical treatment at the scene and walked away from the area.

An investigation found McCormick was at the wheel of the pickup heading east when he came out of a corner near Southeast Manning Lane and crossed the oncoming lane, Seaney said. The truck left the north side of the road and struck a juniper stump, causing it to roll on its side.

Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt, Seaney said, and both were thrown from the truck.
