The driver of a car reported stolen out of Marion County sped away from pursuing police agencies at least four times Monday between Bend and Redmond and eluded capture, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies and Oregon State Police troopers were advised of a reckless driver eastbound toward the area on Highway 20, said sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Sundberg. It was learned the vehicle was reported stolen out of Marion County.

Around 11:45 a.m., a Black Butte Ranch police officer and sheriff’s deputy tried to stop the car on Highway 20 west of Sisters, Sundberg said. The car was traveling recklessly at a high rate of speed, he said.

The driver refused to yield to officers and the pursuit was discontinued for safety reasons, Sundberg said.

“The vehicle was spotted by multiple agencies at least three more times between Sisters and Bend and each time eluded,” the sergeant added. OSP Capt. Bill Fugate said the last incident occurred near Highway 97 and Tumalo Road.

The car is described as a black 2012 Cadillac CTS two door sedan with Oregon plates CU34110.

Sheriff’s deputies and detectives are continuing to investigate, Sundberg said. Anyone with information was asked to contact non-emergency dispatch at 541-693-6911.

At least one traffic stop was made of another black car in the area, in that case north of Bend, but police said they were unrelated.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by OSP and Black Butte Ranch, Redmond and Bend police.
