SW Oregon lumber mill auctions off assets
CAVE JUNCTION, Ore. (AP) — A southwest Oregon lumber mill that once employed more than 200 workers is auctioning off its assets.
The Grants Pass Daily Courier reports (https://is.gd/xykqEi ) that Rough & Ready Lumber began a liquidation auction Wednesday, nine months after shutting down operations.
The auction will run through Thursday and proceeds will go toward Rough & Ready’s timberland program.
Rough & Ready Lumber co-owner Jennifer Phillippi says she and her husband had hoped someone might purchase the mill and restart operations. She says there was an interested buying, but they ultimately dropped out a few weeks ago.
The mill previously shut down for a year in 2013 but reopened with $5 million in upgrades.
