KTVZ

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A former Hood River deputy has been indicted on charges that include luring and sexual abuse of a minor.

Marc Alan Smith was indicted on Nov. 18, but the indictment was unsealed on Wednesday, KOIN6 TV reported (http://bit.ly/2ghyivn).

Smith was arrested Sept. 9 and later resigned, according to the sheriff’s office. The indictment charges him with: one count each of luring a minor, third-degree sexual abuse, second-degree invasion of personal privacy, second-degree online sexual corruption of a child, first-degree official misconduct and two counts of private indecency.

The indictment says that this past summer, Smith communicated with the minor to encourage her to engage in sexual conduct. Prosecutors say he used a cellphone belonging to the sheriff’s office to make a recording of her while she was in a state of nudity.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on Nov. 28.
