Some Oregon universities offer ‘instant admission’
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland State University and other regional schools are offering students “instant admission” in hopes of luring more seniors to campus.
Oregon Public Broadcasting reports (http://bit.ly/2gMSAhr ) that PSU admissions counselors are visiting high schools to look at students’ transcripts and college entrance exam scores to see if they meet admissions requirements. Students that meet those benchmarks are “instantly” accepted to PSU.
Students still have to fill out applications and paperwork before submission deadlines and many students who were admitted say they plan to apply to multiple colleges, but PSU officials say it’s a way to get students excited about applying to their school.
In addition to PSU, three regional universities — Southern, Western and Eastern Oregon — all offer similar admissions programs.
