La Pine Elementary placed in precautionary lockout
La Pine Elementary School was placed in a precautionary lockout for a few hours on Monday afternoon, officials said.
Bend-La Pine Schools officials said the lockout, which began around 1 p.m., would remain in place until the end of the school day at the school on Coach Road, which has nearly 400 students.
Deschutes County sheriff’s Sgt. Jason James said the matter involved a custody dispute. He said there was no danger to the students, staff or public.
A lockout status is one in which exterior doors are locked and visitors are not allowed in, but many activities continue as normal. It is less restrictive than a lockdown, in which no one is allowed in or out of a facility and classes are held in place until the situation is resolved.
