Eugene tavern hit with wrongful-death lawsuit

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon man has filed a $3.9 million wrongful death lawsuit against a Eugene tavern and a woman who struck and killed his father.

The Register-Guard reports (http://bit.ly/2gJBEYs ) that Julio Ortiz Ahumada of Springfield says the Keg Tavern served alcohol to a “visibly intoxicated” Isabel McDaniel, who later hit Ortiz Ahumada and his father as the crossed the street in December 2014.

The lawsuit accuses McDaniel and the Keg employees who served her of negligence.

McDaniel was sentenced to nearly eight years in prison after pleading guilty to several charges, including intoxicated driving and criminally negligent homicide. Prosecutors say 67-year-old Daniel Ortiz-Reynaga was flipped onto the top of McDaniel’s station wagon and that she drove 11 blocks before dumping him on a side road.
