KTVZ

A large two-story home in Powell Butte was destroyed by fire early Thursday morning, but the owners were not home at the time, Crook County Fire and Rescue officials said.

Firefighters were dispatched around 1:30 a.m. to an unknown fire burning near Southwest Riggs and Copley roads in Powell Butte, said Fire Chief Matt Smith.

Powell Butte engine crews arrived to find the home fully ablaze, with the fire threatening several other structures, he said.

A total of 15 firefighters and three engines, an ambulance and water tender were on scene for 1 1/2 hours, bringing the fire under control.

The home was a complete loss, Smith said, adding that there also was minor damage to one outbuilding.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.

Crook County fire crews were assisted by Redmond Fire, Crook County sheriff’s deputies and Oregon State Police.
