Maryland lawmakers approve redone congressional map

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Maryland lawmakers have approved a redrawn congressional map, after a judge struck down the one lawmakers approved in December as unconstitutional for diluting the voice of Republicans. The Maryland House voted 94-41 for the map Wednesday, sending it to Gov. Larry Hogan on Wednesday. The General Assembly is controlled by Democrats and has been scrambling to approve a new map. The new map makes the congressional districts more compact, but Republican lawmakers contend it’s still riddled with unfair partisan gerrymandering that would likely preserve the 7-1 advantage Democrats have over Republicans in the state’s eight U.S. House seats.
