Crook County Parks and Rec gets grant for new sports gear

KTVZ

Crook County Parks and Recreation District is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a two-year grant for new sports equipment.

This award is provided by Good Sports, a nonprofit based in Boston that is dedicated to giving all kids the lifelong benefits of sports. For the next two years, CCPRD will have access to a vast inventory of new equipment that has been donated from well-known companies such as Nike, Bauer, Easton, Reebok, Spalding, and Wilson.

At the top of CCPRD’s wish list are new basketballs and footballs, since participation in CCPRD’s Basketball and Flag Football programs have both doubled in the last three years. They are also excited to get more whistles and stopwatches to support the staff of volunteer coaches.

As Kristen Masten, the Recreation Coordinator for CCPRD, explains “With the Good Sports Grant, we can get much-needed equipment for our programs that have doubled or even tripled in participation over the last few years. This will allow our programs to continue to grow at little to no additional cost, and that’s truly a blessing.”

This grant was written in collaboration with the Crook County Health Department. Both Crook County Parks and Recreation District and Crook County Health Department are excited to find more ways to help local youth be physically active.

Good Sports has worked with multiple organizations throughout Oregon, and Bend’s Elk Meadow Elementary School is a previous grant recipient. To learn more, go to www.ccprd.org or www.goodsports.org.
