Storm bad for some C.O. stores, good for others

The storm has been a mixed blessing for Central Oregon businesses, dealing a financial blow to some and helping others.

“Overall, the business has taken about a 60 percent hit on sales,” said Sean Sirvaitis, store manager of Moe’s Foodmart, in Redmond, said Wednesday.

Jen Aylward, owner of Just a Little Charm in Bend, said, “It was a really slow day yesterday. We probably had three groups of two or three people each.”

The storm closed or altered the hours of several stores.

“I think it was hit or miss on Wall Street whether businesses were open or not. So we’re closed today, but I think we’ll be open the rest of the week,” Aylward said.

The snow kept some drivers off the road, which was a perk for some. Mike Nelson owns the Jimmy John’s in Redmond. He said the restaurant was one of the few still delivering during the storm.

“We just said, ‘It’s here, there’s not much we can do about it. We’ll make the best of it, and if it does gets too bad we’ll pull the plug,'” he said.

The store stayed open, and reported an increase in delivery sales.
