Bend school showers downtown with ‘heart bombs’
Downtown Bend workers and visitors were able to get into the Valentine’s Day spirit with the help of students, faculty and family members from Waldorf School of Bend.
Tuesday morning, they hung up about 1,300 hearts along Minnesota Avenue.
About 70 people came out around 7 a.m. to spread the love to the community.
Faculty member Erin Hanson is in charge of the Heart Bomb project and said it’s a way for the school to give back to Bend.
The rule for these hearts is to take one and pass it along, sharing the love with family and friends.
The hearts are made by the students and have a special message such as, “All you need is love” and “Your heart knows the way.”
We asked the students what Valentine’s Day means to them and why it is important.
Eleanor said Valentine’s Day is about “love, and we’re coming here to spread love around, because love is very important.”
Taylor told us about how her dad makes red heart-shaped pancakes on Valentines Day and said, “We hope by the end of the day all the hearts are gone. So people take the hearts and cherish them.”
The students and staff at Waldorf School wanted to send a big “Happy Valentine’s Day” cheer to everyone in Central Oregon.
