Siletz Tribes announce plans for Salem casino
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A confederation of tribes in Oregon is hoping to build a casino in the state capital of Salem and draw in crowds of gamblers from Portland, the state’s biggest city.
The Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians of Oregon said Tuesday they hope to open the 140,000 square foot entertainment, gaming and hotel facility off Interstate 5 in 2021. They first would need approval from the governor.
The Siletz said they expect to create 1,500 full-time jobs the first year of operation.
The Siletz Tribe said it is working to expand tribal participation in the project.
On April 24, another tribe, the Cowlitz, opened a large casino near La Center, Washington, 25 miles north of Portland.,
