TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran’s Intelligence Ministry says it detained two Europeans shortly before the European Union envoy met Iran’s nuclear negotiator in Tehran over last-ditch attempts to salvage Iran’s nuclear deal with world powers. Photos surfaced of the EU coordinator of the nuclear talks looking stern as he shook hands awkwardly with the Iranian negotiator, who beamed and waved. The Europeans are being held on vague charges. Iran’s Intelligence Ministry gave scant details about the detained Europeans, saying only that they shared the same nationality, which has not been identified, and sought to “take advantage” of protests springing up in several Iranian provinces as laborers and teachers press for better wages.
