OSP: Florence jail inmate dies after assaulting 2 officers
FLORENCE, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say an inmate died shortly after assaulting two police officers at an Oregon jail.
Oregon State Police Lt. Cari Boyd says troopers responded to the Florence Municipal Jail on Monday after learning that two officers were assaulted while trying to release a 40-year-old man from custody.
As medics treated the officers, the inmate became unresponsive and they turned their attention to him. He was pronounced dead at Peace Harbor Hospital in Florence.
No cause of death has been released.
Police have yet to release the inmate’s identity, or say if he was subjected to force after assaulting the officers.
