Deputies testify against former Klamath sheriff

KTVZ

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) – Klamath County deputies have testified that former Sheriff Frank Skrah used excessive force against suspects who posed no threat.

Skrah’s trial on misdemeanor charges began this week in Klamath Falls. The sheriff whose four-year term expired earlier this year is accused of attempted assault, strangulation, harassment and official misconduct. He faces up to a year in jail.

The Herald and News reports (https://is.gd/lvdedP ) that Deputy Ryan Kaber and former deputies Ruben Jenkins and Jason Weber said events they witnessed did not meet the standards that would allow law enforcement to use force.

That contradicts claims by defense attorney Rosalind Lee that her client’s actions were warranted by dangerous circumstances.

The trial is expected to last through Friday.
