Bend Parkway speeder crackdown: 46 tickets in 3 hours

On Thursday, June 1 , Bend Police, Black Butte Police and Oregon State Police conducted an enhanced patrol on the Bend Parkway, issuing 46 speeding tickets in three hours.

They also issued eight warnings and impounded one vehicle, Lt. Clint Burleigh said Thursday.

The enhanced patrol, funded by an ODOT grant, ran from 1-4 p.m., with a focus on excessive speed in the posted 45 mph.

Sgt. Eric Hagan said drivers were stopped and ticketed for going in the 60-70 mph range in the posted 45 mph zone. The average citation carried a $260 bail, he said.

Burleigh said there are additional enhanced patrols scheduled for various locations in Central Oregon in the coming months.

Hagan said the monthly enforcement detail’s locations will change, depending on crash statistics and the need for speed reduction in certain areas of Central Oregon.

The goal of the enhanced patrols is to increase safety by reducing speeds on the roadways, Burleigh said, adding that “increased speeds are a contributing factor to many traffic crashes in Central Oregon.”

“Central Oregon law enforcement agencies would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists to please slow down and obey all traffic laws,” the announcement concluded.
