Florida trucker unhurt, cited in Millican Rd. semi crash
(Update: Truck driver cited)
A Florida truck driver was uninjured but cited Thursday after his semi-truck rolled over and lost its load southwest of Prineville, Crook County sheriff’s deputies said.
Deputies were dispatched around 12:15 p.m. to the non-injury crash on George Millican Road near milepost 7.5, about seven miles southwest of Prineville, said Sgt. Ryan Seaney.
Deputies arrived to find a Volvo semi-truck rolled onto its side and resting on the southbound shoulder, with a large attached flatbed trailer blocking the southbound lane, Seaney said.
Two Dodge pickup trucks and other industrial equipment the semi had been hauling became separated from the trailer and came to rest in the southbound lane of travel and roadway shoulder, the sergeant said.
Evidence at the scene indicated the semi was heading north when it left the road, driving onto the soft shoulder, Seaney said. The driver apparently over-corrected, causing the semi to veer left and cross sharply into the oncoming lane of travel before it rolled onto the passenger side and lost its load, Seaney said.
The driver, Taras Dikov Favorskyy, 31, of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, was unhurt in the crash, Seaney said.
Sgt. Bill Elliott said Friday while they were unable to prove distracted driving at this time, the driver was cited for failure to maintain lane and driving on the wrong side of the roadway.
The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by Oregon State Police, Crook County Fire and Rescue and the Crook County Road Department. SMAF Environmental also responded to the scene to clean up a spill of hazardous material.
