Fire damages closed mill in Prineville

KTVZ

A fire at the closed Woodgrain Millwork plant in Prineville late Tuesday night likely was caused by a cutting torch used earlier in the day, an official said.

The call to the blaze came in at 11:48 p.m. and two engines, a water tender and ambulance responded to the scene, said Crook County Fire District Chief Matt Smith.

The fire damaged a “blow pipe” and a structure associated with sawdust storage, Smith said.

A damage estimate was not available. Crews worked on scene for about two hours, the fire chief added.

The mill had a major roof collapse in late 2014 that eventually led to its closure, and heavy snow collapsed part of the unoccupied mill’s roof in early January.
