Wyden opposes President Trump’s Cuba moves
Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today issued a statement Friday on the administration’s plan to restrict travel and business dealings with Cuba:
“This administration’s actions threaten to slam that door shut and revert to a failed policy of isolation that has done nothing to improve the lives of the Cuban people and has harmed the American economy,” Wyden said.
“New openings in the U.S. relationship put in place by President Obama, together with unilateral actions by the Cuban government and the inevitable impact of technology, are just starting to open Cuba to the marketplace of ideas, as well as the market for U.S. exports.
“We need to go even further to speed up positive change in Cuba and open new markets for U.S. farmers and business. That is why I will be introducing a bill next week to completely eliminate the ineffective embargo against Cuba.”
