Bend police arrest Wash. pair in stolen pickup

Two Washington state residents were stopped by police in a stolen pickup truck in southeast Bend and arrested Sunday evening, also accused of providing false information or having stolen ID, officers said.

Shortly before 6 p.m., an officer stopped a beige GMC pickup at Southeast Knott Road and Mayberry Court, as it had no license plate and an altered temporary tag in the window, said police Lt. Brian Kindel.

The driver, identified as Troy Scott Porter, 28, of Olympia, provided false information to the officer, who eventually was able to determine the pickup had been stolen in Olympia in late June, Kindel said. Police also learned he had an outstanding out-of-state warrant for his arrest.

During the investigation, the passenger, Brooke Jamie Eng, 35, of Tumwater, was found to possess stolen ID belonging to others and also had methamphetamine in her possession, Kindel said.

Other items believed to be stolen were seized from the pickup, the lieutenant said, adding that the investigation is continuing.

Both suspects were taken to the Deschutes County Jail. Porter was held without bail on the out-of-state warrant and also faces charges of unauthorized use and possession of a stolen vehicle, giving false information to a police officer and failure to carry and present a driver’s license.

Eng was held on $50,000 bail, facing charges of meth possession, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle and two counts of identity theft.
