(Update: Police identify shooting victim, other details)

A man who was shot several times by a family member at his home in southwest Prineville Sunday evening was in critical condition Monday at St. Charles Bend, authorities said.

Prineville police, Crook County sheriff’s deputies and Oregon State Police responded around 6:30 p.m. Sunday o the reported “domestic altercation involving the use of a firearm” in the 900 block of Southwest Crestview Road, said Police Chief Dale Cummins.

Officers arrived to find resident Lonnie O’Daniel, 61, of Prineville, was the victim of several gunshot wounds, Cummins said Monday.

O’Daniel was taken to the Prineville hospital and later transferred to the Bend facility, where he was in critical condition Monday, officials said.

The Central Oregon Major Crimes Team was contacted, as is normal procedure for cases of this nature, the police chief said in a news release issued late Sunday night.

Investigators said they determined a family member shot O’Daniel during a domestic altercation inside a home, Cummins said.

But the case is still under investigation, no charges have been filed and no one has been taken into custody at this point, the police chief said.

When the investigation is complete, Cummins said, it will be forwarded to the Crook County District Attorney’s Office for review and consideration of charges.

Chief Deputy DA Raun Atkinson confirmed: “No one has been arrested. The case will be reviewed by our office once the investigation is complete.”

Cummins also repeated Sunday night’s statement: “At this point, we believe all parties involved in this incident are accounted for, and there is no danger or outstanding threats to our citizens regarding this incident.”
