SW Redmond apartment cooking fire injures 4

An apparent cooking fire in an apartment at a Redmond independent living facility Monday injured four people and caused $100,000 damage, officials said.

Crews were called shortly after 5 p.m. to Reindeer Meadows at 1601 Southwest Reindeer Avenue on a report of a fire alarm sounding on the third floor, said Redmond Fire Marshal Traci Cooper.

They entered to find a fire in a third-floor apartment with a fire sprinkler activation, Cooper said.

Firefighters searched the room and found a victim, who was taken to St. Charles Redmond, Puller said. Authorities had no initial information on that person’s condition.

A second person was taken to the Redmond hospital with minor injuries, while two others were treated and released at the scene, Cooper said.

Losses were estimated at $100,000 to the building and contents.

Redmond had mutual-aid help from the Bend, Crooked River Ranch and Cloverdale fire departments, as well as Redmond police, OSP and the American Red Cross, which provided disaster relief to three adults.

Cooper noted it was Redmond Fire’s second fire this week extinguished or held in check by a fire sprinkler system. The other was at a Pronghorn Resort maintenance building.
