Beaverton bystanders break van window to rescue 2 dogs

BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) – A man has been cited for animal neglect after police say he left two dogs in a hot van in Beaverton.
 
KOIN-TV reports (https://goo.gl/YGFKZP ) two employees at Panera Bread saw the dogs inside the vehicle with the windows rolled up Wednesday afternoon.
 
Beaverton police say the Yorkshire Terriers were barking and it was hot so the employees tried to find the driver and eventually broke the window to retrieve the dogs.
 
Breaking a vehicle window is legal in Oregon if a child or animal is in danger.
 
Police say 21-year-old Barth Cosett was in a nearby bank and said it was a “poor choice” to leave the dogs in the vehicle.
 
Police say the animals are emotional support dogs.
 
Temperatures were in the 90s in Beaverton Wednesday.
