Crook County property for rent during solar eclipse

Property owners across Central Oregon are getting creative when it comes to making a profit on their property from the biggest event to hit the region in a long time.

One land owner in Crook County is using Craigslist to attract people just looking for a spot to watch the solar eclipse.

Pete Sharp told NewsChannel 21 on Wednesday he and his wife just thought of the idea and decided, why not jump on the solar eclipse train?

“I can say just to help people out, but we’re doing it to make a dollar on it. We hope to make a dollar on it, if not it would be fun,” Sharp said.

Sharp’s 44-acre property is located off Highway 26 between Crook and Jefferson counties, and he’ll take up to 40 people on his property.

He’s asking for $750 for the week.

He says with Central Oregon’s population doubling, he expects people would rather find a place than waiting in traffic.

Some Central Oregonians are using Craigslist to let people who want to watch the solar eclipse, there is space if the price is right.

Searching eclipse on Craigslist, you’ll find a $700 room for rent, an RV you can sleep in or an open lot where you can camp or park.

Sharp built an outhouse for those unexpected guests. As traffic is starting to flood into Central Oregon, one rancher is hoping this solar eclipse will bring him some money.

With any Craigslist ad, police advise consumers to be careful and alert when it comes to possible scammers.
