Oregonians urged to join 5th annual Drive Less Challenge
The fifth annual Drive Less Challenge begins Saturday, and Oregonians are encouraged to try an alternative to driving alone in a car on a trip.
It could be walking to work or biking to the store, riding the bus to an event or even teleworking. When you log those non-solo car trips into the Drive Less Challenge website, you’ll automatically be entered to win valuable prizes, such as $50 REI gift cards or one of three GenZe electric bicycles.
The annual Drive Less Challenge is designed to get people out of their cars and into an alternate form of transportation, even just once. People who give it a try may experience health benefits from walking or riding a bike and save money, too – and by taking a car off the road or sharing the ride, they are helping the environment. It adds up to multiple benefits all around.
“We know Oregonians value a strong multimodal system, where people have choices in transportation,” said ODOT Director Matt Garrett. “This annual challenge encourages people to experience it firsthand and see how these options bring a variety of benefits to individuals as well as communities.”
To join, sign up on the free trip-logging website, DriveLessConnect.com. Then log bus, train/rail, bike, carpool, vanpool and walking trips for work, errands or play, plus teleworking, all for the chance to win prizes. Weekly prizes include $125 KEEN gift card, Hydro Flasks, $25 Dutch Bros gift cards, $50 REI gift cards and $50 Black Star Bags gift cards. Grand prizes include one of three GenZe electric bikes, or a $500 cash card. Individuals can join at any point during the challenge.
