Klamath Falls woman gets probation in shooting death of boyfriend

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) – A Klamath Falls woman has been sentenced to probation in the New Year’s Day shooting death of her boyfriend.
 
The Herald and News reports (https://is.gd/fsjUIN ) Kassandra Imbert pleaded no contest Tuesday to negligently causing the death of Tyler Balais.
 
The pair had been drinking at a downtown bar on New Year’s Eve when they got into a fight. After returning home, the two wrestled with a gun after Balais threatened suicide and it went off. Balais died from a gunshot wound to the head.
 
Witnesses provided conflicting opinions about Imbert’s combativeness. Balais’s mother told the court that Imbert had once struck her over the head with a wine bottle. But former sheriff’s deputy Laurie Kimmell said she met Imbert several times in jail and the woman has a tender heart.
 
Klamath County Judge Dan Bunch said alcohol was the real enemy in the shooting.
