Restoration work to close Benham Falls area for 2 days

KTVZ

(Update: USFS corrects area of closure)

On Wednesday, the Deschutes National Forest will close the Deschutes River Trail between Benham East Day Use area and the Benham Falls Overlook along the Deschutes River. The trail will reopen at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.

From 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., heavy equipment and crews will be working along the approximately one-mile trail from the footbridge below Benham East to the Benham Falls overlook.

Restoration efforts will block multiple user created trails that have resulted in soil compaction that has deteriorated riparian areas and adjacent upland areas.

The trails will be open in the evening Wednesday and Thursday.

Signs will be posted near the Benham East Day Use area footbridge advising the public of the closure. The Benham Falls overlook can still be accessed during the closure by traveling on Forest Road 4100-400 on the west side of the river.
