Bend schools hold ‘Good Neighbor Day’ clean-up events

Students and staff from several schools in Bend-La Pine Schools are participating in activities related to Good Neighbor Day on Sept. 28, a national holiday that encourages people to be kind and help neighbors and neighborhoods.

Students at four local schools will host clean-up efforts in the neighborhood surrounding their schools.

Sept. 28: Amity Creek Magnet at Thompson School students and staff will participate in a neighborhood clean-up effort. Contact the school for details on timing. Sept. 29: Marshall High School students will be helping clean up the neighborhood around the school. Contact the school for details on timing. Sept. 29: Summit High School’s freshmen class will take part in a neighborhood clean-up activity to start off the day. The activity will take place from approximately 7:45 a.m. until 9 a.m. Sept. 29: Westside Village Magnet at Kingston School students and staff will participate in a neighborhood clean-up. The entire student body and staff will take part in this effort. Contact the school for details on timing.

“Our schools are integral parts of their neighborhoods. Good Neighbor Day is a great opportunity for our students and staff to demonstrate what it means to be a good neighbor,” said Superintendent Shay Mikalson. “From neighborhood clean-up efforts to volunteering for local charities, our students are learning what it means to be good neighbors and citizens.”
