Pickup driver sought in bicyclist hit-and-run south of Redmond

Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies are looking for the hit-and-run driver of a pickup truck that sideswiped and injured a 75-year-old bicyclist with its utility trailer south of Redmond Tuesday afternoon, sending him to the hospital.

Deputies responded around 3 p.m. to the reported hit-and-run crash involving a bicyclist on South Canal Boulevard north of Southwest 61st Street, said sheriff’s Sergeant Aaron Harding.

An Oregon State Police trooper, Redmond Fire Department paramedics and several deputies responded to the crash, Harding said. The cyclist, identified as Robert Thomas, 75, of Bend, was treated on scene and taken to St. Charles Redmond for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputies thoroughly searched the area, Harding said, but could not find the suspect vehicle, described as a white unknown-make “dually” (dual wheels on rear axle) pickup truck, towing a white utility trailer and driven by an older male.

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office asked anyone who saw the crash or has information that could help find the driver or vehicle to call dispatchers at 541-693-6911.
