Camel found wandering in Sisters, returned to owner

Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies find wandering animals such as dogs, horses or llamas, even livestock in rural areas all the time — but a camel sauntering by in Sisters early Sunday was a novel experience.
“We received a report of a found camel in Sisters today,” the sheriff’s office said in a posting to Facebook.
It was accompanied by a video of the Bactrian (two-humped) camel sauntering by two deputies’ patrol car, as one laughed and photographed it to share.

Sheriff’s Sgt. William Bailey said the male camel lives in Bend and was in Sisters, visiting with its owner in the 68000 block of Chestnut Drive.
“The camel was tethered, but came untied and went on a walkabout,” Bailey told NewsChannel 21.
After deputies found the camel, the owner was discovered in the area, also searching for him, the sergeant said. The owner and camel were reunited about 90 minutes after the animal had disappeared.
