Prineville businesses, homes burglarized over holiday weekend
The long holiday weekend turned into a headache for some Prineville residents, as several homes and businesses were hit by burglars.
According to Prineville police logs, there were more than five reported thefts or burglaries that happened during the Thanksgiving weekend.
NewsChannel 21 reached out Tuesday to people on Facebook, asking them if they’ve heard of recent burglaries happening all across the city. And people started chiming in, telling us they were the victims of burglaries and thefts over the past few days.
Jenny Agee and her family sad they were out of town celebrating Thanksgiving, and when they returned home, they noticed some of their things were missing.
The reported burglary happened in the area of Southeast Sixth Street.
Agee said the suspect took a pistol, cash and jewelry from her home.
“I started noticing there was a lot of things not in place, she said. “Bedroom doors were open that are never opened — just things that are kind of moved. Something was off- you can tell it was off.”
Agee said she is out more than $700, and never expected this to happen to her.
She said she has lived in Prineville all of her life, and never locked her doors.
She thinks the people just walked in and took whatever they wanted.
Agee tells NewsChannel 21 that after this incident, she’ll now lock her doors.
But she’s not the only victim. One business is out hundreds of dollars.
The Lamonta Roadhouse Bar and Grill was burglarized sometime overnight last Thursday, and whoever committed this crime hauled away an ATM filled with cash.
The burglary was reported on Thanksgiving day on Northwest Lamonta Road.
Aimee White, who was tending bar that day, said when she got there in the morning, she noticed the ATM was gone.
She said the building seemed secure, then noticed the side door deadbolt was broken.
White said she’s heard of other businesses’ ATMs being taken as well.
D-2 Properties Inc., located on Northeast Peters Road, also was the target of a burglary. The owner didn’t want to go on camera, but an employee confirmed a crime was committed on his property.
NewsChannel 21 reached out to Prineville police several times Tuesday for an interview and to ask if there’s been a spike in these types of crimes, compared to last year, but our calls were not returned.
