DCSO: Woodside Ranch girl says suspicious man ran toward her
Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies alerted the public Wednesday night they are investigating a 10-year-old girl’s report that a man spotted and ran toward her as she walked to a friend’s home earlier in the day in the Woodside Ranch subdivision south of Bend.
Deputies were dispatched around 8:45 p.m. to contact a resident in the area of Woodside Road and Pine Vista Drive, sheriff’s Sgt. William Bailey said.
The woman reported that around 2:30 p.m., her 10-year-old daughter had been walking to a friend’s house in the area and encountered a suspicious man, about 40 years old.
The girl told her mother the man also was walking in the area and that upon seeing her, the stranger began running toward her, Bailey said. The girl said she ran away from the man as fast as she could, safely making it to her friend’s house.
Bailey said deputies are working to identify the male and determine the circumstances of the incident.
“At this time, it is not known why the male ran toward the girl, but the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office wanted to make residents in that area aware of this incident,” Bailey said in a news release.
The girl described the man as about 40 years old, with black hair, and wearing a red jacket, gray pants and black shoes.
Anyone with information about the incident or who may have seen a man in the area matching the description to call non-emergency dispatch at 541-693-6911.
