(Update: Noting the Hasty Team members are volunteers)

An extensive weekend search was conducted for evidence related to the Thanksgiving Day fatal shooting of a beloved trumpeter swan near Sunriver, as a reward fund has grown to $1,500, police said Sunday.

Ten volunteers with the Sunriver Citizen Patrol’s Hasty Response Team and two Sunriver police officers spent about four hours Saturday afternoon searching for evidence in the shooting of the swan, Chuck, who was seriously wounded and later euthanized.

Police Sgt. Joe Patnode said the searchers used three metal detectors and other methods to look for evidence.

“There has been additional areas identified for search in the near future,” Patnode said in a news release Sunday, thanking the Hasty Rescue Team for its assistance.

The Sunriver Nature Center and Observatory and the East Cascades Audubon Society have a $1,500 reward in place for information leading to the prosecution of those responsible for the shooting.

Anyone with information that could lead to identifying the suspect(s) is asked to contact Sunriver police at (541) 593-1014 or the Oregon State Police Tip Line at 1-800-452-7888 or TIP@state.or.us.
