Portland police officer charged with misconduct

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland police officer has been charged with official misconduct.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reports 46-year-old Christian Berge is expected to enter a plea and be sentenced on Thursday.

The criminal information charging Berge with one count of first-degree official misconduct was filed Tuesday in Multnomah County Circuit Court.

The charging document says Berge “unlawfully and knowingly” engaged in “unauthorized exercise of his official duties, with intent to obtain a benefit” while a Portland police officer between Aug. 12, 2015, and May 3, 2017.

Berge joined the bureau in December 2007 after working as an officer in San Francisco. He worked patrol but had been on front desk duty at the Central Precinct before he was placed on paid leave.

Berge is expected to be stripped of his police certification as part of his plea and sentencing.
