Incoming Bend-La Pine freshmen invited to learn about high schools

Incoming freshmen (current eighth-graders) and their families are invited to learn more about Bend-La Pine Schools’ high schools during information nights at local schools slated to take place in January and February.

Bend-La Pine Schools high schools host an orientation event, during which families can learn more about the programs and opportunities available for students at each school. Families that live within Bend-La Pine Schools may enroll students in neighborhood schools at any time; families may also request to have their students attend any other neighborhood school that has space available by filling out an Attendance Area Change Request form by March 1; or request to attend Realms High School or Skyline High School by filling out an online enrollment request .

Information nights are set for the following times:

Bend Senior High School: 5:30 p.m. Feb. 12 La Pine High School: contact the school for details Marshall High School: contact the school for details Mountain View High School: 6 p.m. Feb. 15 Realms High School: See details below Skyline High School: See details below Summit High School: 6 p.m. Feb. 22

Families are also invited to learn about two new choice option high schools opening in the fall of 2018 — Realms High School and Skyline High School. Families will get a first look at these two schools during an information night at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 17 at the Education Center, 520 NW Wall St., Bend. The schools will also host separate additional information nights.

“We are excited for incoming freshmen and their families to learn more about our outstanding high schools, each of which has its own unique programs and specialty areas,” said Superintendent Shay Mikalson. “These upcoming information nights are a great way to introduce students and parents alike to the programs, academic offerings, clubs and school culture families can expect to experience at each school.”

Realms High School: Realms High School is a new EL Education school where students engage in rigorous academic coursework in which they investigate real world topics, make connections through interdisciplinary projects and create final products that make a difference in the community. Students at Realms High School work collaboratively, engage in frequent fieldwork, take ownership of their learning and help build a school where all students feel a strong sense of belonging, community and pride,” said Principal Roger White.

5:30 p.m. Jan. 17 at the Education Center 6 p.m. Jan. 24 at Pilot Butte Middle School 6 p.m. Feb. 6 at Bend Senior High School 6 p.m. Feb. 28 at Realms Middle School

Skyline High School: At Skyline, students will be creators, not consumers of their learning. Through personalized educational experiences, students will hone their purpose in a community where innovation, design thinking and challenge are valued. Skyline students will actively engage with local industry and the environment in educational, entrepreneurial and philanthropic ways,” said Principal Mike Franklin.
