Redmond’s future neighborhood plans take shape

One of Central Oregon’s fastest-growing communities has plans for the future. Redmond hosted the last of three public workshops Thursday evening to discuss a comprehensive neighborhood revitalization plan.

Only one person attended the last of three such meetings. It was still important, though, because the plan introduces new features and policies to make residents safer and more connected.

The plan also will focus on making recreation more accessible by providing open spaces and bigger recreation amenities. Another goal is to give the farther-out areas of the community more retail options closer to home.

“Another part of this project is also identifying areas in these existing neighborhoods where we might want to introduce small-scale neighborhood retail, where people can walk and bike to and not make a car trip out of,” Senior Planner Anais Mathez said.

The one attendee at the workshop said his vision of a better Redmond has to do with making it easier to get around town without a car.

“I think my priority is making it easy to walk, run and bike around Redmond,” Redmond resident Mel Mills said.

The planning process is funded by a state grant.
