OSU student’s inflammatory views spark outrage

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A member of Oregon State University’s student government has sparked outrage on campus following a student newspaper article that outlined his white nationalist views.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reports 27-year-old Andrew Oswalt was arrested Monday – the same day the newspaper’s interview with him was published.

Corvallis police arrested Oswalt on a misdemeanor criminal mischief charge after police say he and another person placed bumper stickers with a racial slur on two cars in June. The cars belonged to members of a racial justice advocacy group.

In an email response to questions Tuesday, Oswalt says police are involved in an “attempt at character assassination.”

Oswalt affirmed his beliefs, saying white people have greater intelligence than other racial groups.

The student government is considering a measure to oust Oswalt from his representative role.
