University of Oregon tuition hike proposed

KTVZ

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – An advisory board is recommending raising tuition by nearly 3 percent for in-state undergraduate students at the University of Oregon for the next school year.

The Register-Guard reports the university’s Tuition and Fee Advisory Board is also recommending a nearly 2.5 percent tuition increase for out-of-state undergraduate students.

Under the board’s proposal made this month, a full-time student from Oregon would have $9,765 in tuition. A full-time student not from Oregon would pay $33,345 in tuition. Each student would also pay nearly $3,000 for university fees in addition to tuition.

University spokesman Tobin Klinger says the tuition recommendation comes as many cost drivers like salaries, health care and retirement funds are continuing to increase.

The university’s board of trustees will decide in March whether to approve the recommendations.
