Grants available for small Oregon nonprofits

KTVZ

Each year, Oregon Humanities awards $10,000 in small grants to Oregon nonprofits and tribes in support of programs created in response to timely issues and events.

In the 2018 financial year, all funds were awarded within the first three months they were offered. In response to this high demand, Oregon Humanities has added an additional $10,000 to the Responsive Program Grants fund for the remainder of the year.

Responsive Program Grants are awarded on a rolling basis. In keeping with Oregon Humanities’ commitment to making humanities programming available in communities that have historically lacked access to funding opportunities, priority for funding requests for the remainder of the year will be given to proposals from organizations with budgets under $500,000 that are based in and led by communities of color, rural communities, and English language learners.

Groups from anywhere in Oregon are invited to apply, including those organizations that may not define their missions as humanities-based. Organizations that are not nonprofits may apply using a fiscal sponsor.

Projects that have already received include a series of public programs about public lands in Bend, monthly events with authors in Pendleton, an Earth Day performance in Astoria, and community conversations across difference in Salem.

To apply for a Responsive Program Grant, organizations must an online application (at oregonhumanities.org/programs/responsive-program-grants). Oregon Humanities is committed to awarding grants within four weeks of receiving proposals. Awards will be made until funding runs out or September 30, 2018, whichever comes first.

Potential applicants are welcome to contact Program Coordinator Kyle Weismann-Yee at (503) 241-0543 / (800) 735-0543, ext. 112, or kyle@oregonhumanities.org.
