Sisters-Camp Sherman RFPD honors state for Milli Fire response

At their annual awards banquet last Friday, officials from the Sisters-Camp Sherman Rural Fire District presented a Partnership Award to State Fire Marshal Jim Walker, thanking the Oregon Office of State Fire Marshal for their rapid and effective response to last year’s Milli Fire.

“I was very impressed with the speed and efficiency of the statewide mobilization of resources to the Milli Fire this past summer,” said fire district Chief Roger Johnson.

The Milli Fire began on August 17, 2017, just west of Sisters. In total, more than 2,000 homes were threatened and 600 people were evacuated from their homes. Not a single home was lost.

“The OSFM Incident Management Team and structural resources did an exceptional job protecting the Sisters community. More than 50 communities sent firefighters and equipment to help protect our citizens. The State Mobilization Plan worked flawlessly,” said Chief Johnson.

“I am honored to accept this award on behalf of everyone at the OSFM, members of the OSFM Green Incident Management Team, and the hundreds of firefighters who left their own communities to help protect another Oregon community,” said State Fire Marshal Jim Walker.
