Jury in Bend convicts Gresham man of sex abuse

After a four-week trial and several days of deliberation, a Deschutes County grand jury on Wednesday convicted a Gresham pastor and former Bend resident on seven counts of sexual abuse involving a family member.

James Daniel Worley, 45, was found guilty of six first-degree sexual abuse charges and an attempted sodomy charge. The jury was unable to reach a verdict on several other charges.

A court hearing is scheduled Friday to set a sentencing date for Worley, who also was formerly a Tillamook police officer.

A Tillamook County jury earlier had acquitted Worley on some charges and deadlocked on others.

Worley initially was arrested in late 2014 on accusations of crimes in Bend that came to light in 2012, several years after the alleged incidents. The Tillamook County case delayed court proceedings in Deschutes County.
